2009/10/10-Wolfgang Hofkirchner joins BITrum planning as Visiting Professor at the Universidad de León

During the last quarter of 2009, Professor Hofkirchner takes part –as visiting professor at the Universidad de León- in the planning and projection of BITrum. At the same time, he devotes himself to the completion of a book concerning the Information Concept, which will be published by World Scientific Publishing in 2010. Throughout his stay, it is planned to strengthen bonds with international scientific communities and networks which scopes are within BITrum’s frame of interest.
Professor Hofkirchner –to whom we wish to express our more cordial gratitude for his willingness to take such an active role- collaborates with the coordination team in the Project planning, development and international projection of BITrum. He specially endeavours the convergence with scientific organizations and networks in which he is involved or holds some responsability. Undoubtedly his central position in: “ICTs and Society Network”, “Science of Information Institute”, “Unified Theory of Information Research Group”, “Bertalanffy Center for the Study of Systems Science", the journal “TripleC” and his responsability in “Foundations of Information Science” as well as the active involvement in other scientific communities concerning information (like the "International Society for Biosemiotic Studies"), represent a splendid opportunity for the international projection of the group as well as for the participation in international calls for public funding.

Debates concerning information concept

We foresee weekly meetings devoted to the discussion and analysis of Wolfgang's coming books, to which all members are kindly invited. We expect to strengthen BITrum’s scientific programme within this arena in order to improve both: next proposals to international calls and an immediate project planning. Wolfgang HOFKIRCHNER, born in Vienna in 1953, is Dr.phil. in Political Science and Psychology by the University of Salzburg, Professor for Internet & Society at the ICT&S Center, Paris-Lodron-University of Salzburg since 2004, and Associate Professor for Technology Assessment at the Institute for Design and Technology Assessment, Vienna University of Technology since 2001. Specialised in Science-Technology-Society, he currently focus on Information Society Theory and Foundations of Information Science. He directs the Research Group in Unified Theory of Information (UTI) and is member to, and serving on the board of, numerous scientific societies, member of 3 editorial boards and editor of the open-access online journal TripleC and a book series. He has published 130 contributions in the field, including 18 monographs or edited volumes. <http://uti.at/hofkirchner.html>

Within BITrum Group he is head of the Unification team and member of Scientific Committee in System Theory and Information Society. During his visiting stay in Universidad de León his office will be located within the Faculty of Education (Off.: 234, Tfn.: +34 987 293140)
