In his doctoral thesis –guided by our colleagues Lydia Sánchez and Manuel Campos–, Carlos Aguilar tries to reconcile the concepts of information, situation and interpretation. Under the heading “Information processing of audiovisual contents”, Carlos tackles the fundamental purpose of developing a “theoretical model for the study of information content mediated by audiovisual vehicles, based upon the mathematical development of channel theory.” To that end, he nurtures Shannon’s approach with the situational one, and channel theory with the systematic study of interpretative mechanisms of audiovisual contents. In addition he develops a formal tool for the tensor treatment of information in audiovisual contents. His viewpoint is objectivist –or as he states, methodologically positivist – (position entirely coherent with the one manifested in the debate held on objectivity during the Meeting of León 2008) From BITrum group we wish to congratulate this crowning of Carlos endeavor, which work have regularly pushed BITrum’s courses since its beginnings (Meeting in León, monography in triple, ICTs&Society Meeting, FIS2010 Congress and glossariumBITri). Our most heartfelt congratulation! |
