Since the “Citizens’ Revolution” and the subsequent constitutional process, 2007/2008, Ecuador walks towards an strengthening of the scientific and educational system as pillars of a radical change in their socio-economic roots and the establishment of a genuine democracy able to cope with geopolitical and environmental challenges of nowadays. The PROMETEO programme, through which the Andean republic tries to attract scientists from the international scientific community, selected the candidacy of José María Díaz. BITrum’s coordination team considered then appropriate the presentation –with some variants and specificities– of a relevant part of BITrum’s research programme, which was later approved by the State Secretary of Science (Senescyt) for its development between June 2014 and September 2016. Such programme foresees –among other objectives– the deployment of an Ecuadorian network connected to the research institutions in the framework of BITrum’s cooperations. The development of a general approach to information from the different scientific angles, the clarification of concepts, metaphors, theories and problems constitute central objectives of the proposed programme.
