BITrum welcomes new members

In the past years, several collaborations have enriched BITrum scientific capacities, covering some areas previously weak, which are certainly relevant for the objetives we aim to achieve. Today we wish to cordially greet these new members. The following very short bios let you take a brief look at their interesting careers.

Daniel Martínez Ávila

(B.Sc. Forestry Engineering by the Universidad de Santiago de Compostela, 1998, M.Sc. Forestry Engineering by the same university; European PhD. by Universidad de Vigo, 2006). She is Professor at the Universidad de León (2011) with a teaching and research profile in remote sensing and monitoring of natural resources using GIS and remote sensing. She has participated in numerous national and international projects, having enjoyed 9 research assignments: 2 (6 Months) in the Technische Universitat Munchen (Germany); 6 (17 Months) in the Pacific Forestry Centre (Victoria, Canada) and one in the ITC (Holland) (6 Months). She has published more than 20 scientific articles indexed in JCR in the field of spatial information, with more than 500 cites. She has co-authored works about the application of problem-based learning and online environments (blended learning, mobile learning, and augmented reality) in the field of forestry engineering and geomatics.

Born in 1980 in Nürnberg (Germany). She received her diploma degree (M.Sc.) in Biology from the University of Erlangen (Germany) 2004 and her doctoral degree (PhD) in chemical ecology from the Institute for the Chemistry and Biology of the Marine Environment (ICBM) of the Carl von Ossietzky University of Oldenburg (Germany) 2009. She moved to Vienna (Austria) 2012 and is currently a research fellow at the Bertalanffy Center for the Study of Systems Science (BCSSS) in Vienna. Her research interests involve the fields of chemical ecology and systems biology. Her principal object is to describe and analyze information processing systems from the viewpoint of evolutionary biology.

He is Assistant Professor at the Universidade Estadual Paulista (São Paolo, Brasil). B.Sc. in Library and Information Science by the Universidad Carlos III de Madrid (2005), where he also was awarded with the degrees of: Licentiate in Documentation (2007), M.Sc. in Documentation Research, and international PhD. through the doctoral official programme on Documentation Science. He was researcher and adjoin trainer at the University of Wisconsin- Milwauke until September 2014 and assistant Professor at the Universidad Carlos III de Madrid until September 2013. He has experience in the area of information science with specific focus on Information Organisation. He is member of the Scientific Advisory Board of the International Society for Knowledge Organization (ISKO).

Born in 1958 in Baku, Azerbaijan. He was graduated in Medicine in 1981 at the Mechnikov North-Western State Medical University (Saint Petersburg, Russia). He defended his PhD thesis “Estimation of Developing Emotional Stress” in 1990 at the Institute of Occupational Medicine of the Russian Academy of Medical Sciences, Moscow; and his Doctoral. Dissertation “Problem of Physiological-hygienic Assessment of the Information Loads for Optimize Intellectual Work” in 2014 at the Research Institute of Occupational Health affiliated to the Russian Academy of Medical Sciences. Since 2008, he holds a chair on “Hygiene and Ecology” at the Kuban State Medical University, Krasnodar, Russia; Between 1998 and 2008, chair on fundamental medical science at the Krasnodar Municipal Medical Institute; Between 1992 and 1998, chair on pathophysiology at the Kuban State Medical University, Krasnodar, Russia. Among his work is worth mentioning: –– (1998). Information ecology - a viewpoint. International Journal of Environmental Studies 54(3-4); and –– (2005). Noogenesis and Theory of Intellect (in Russian). Krasnodar Publishing House.
PhD in Biology by the University of Alcalá, Spain. She is professor at the Ecuadorian Center of Biotechnological Research of the Escuela Politécnica Superior del Litoral (ESPOL, Guayaquil, Ecuador) since 2015. From 2014 to 2015, she was Prometeo researcher and lecturer at the State University of Santa Elena Peninsula, Ecuador; between 2004 and 2015, she was main researcher at the Fundación Instituto de Estudios Avanzados (IDEA), Caracas, Venezuela, creating the interdisciplinary platform of Proteomic for studies of biotechnology applied to agriculture and biomedical sciences. She has been invited professor in the field of proteomic and genomics in several Venezuelan universities.  She has trained human talent who is currently developing proteomic studies in different countries. She has directed and participated in projects of the Inter-American Development Bank, and has served to international organisations as the UNDP
Doctor in Technologies and Information Systems from the Minho University (Guimarães, Portugal) and M.Sc. in Systems and Information Technologies from the University of Coimbra (Portugal). She has been scholar in different academic institutions since 1991, and currently is teacher and investigator at the Faculty of Systems and Telecommunication of the Universidad Estatal Península de Santa Elena. She is researcher at ALGORITMI Research Centre at University of Minho, Portugal. Her research interests focus on business intelligence, information science, marketing, internet of things, computation theory and knowledge management.
